Frugal Friday~

Hi Everyone!  Welcome to this week's Frugal Friday!

NOTE:  I've had a few readers comment about the teeny-tiny thumbnails.  I'm so sorry about that!  Linky Tools changed their dashboard, and I'm still getting used to it.  I accidentally chose the wrong size thumbnails this week when I was doing the post settings.  I can't change it now, but I promise I won't have such small thumbnails next week.  Time to get out the old magnifying glass, huh? LOL!

Last week's fan favorite was this fabulous hand-painted clock by The Exchange.

Now for my Frugal Round-up...

First up, an awesome DIY painted Zebra Rug from J and J Home.

Then A Room Full of Good Intentions shared her adorable Summer Pinwheel Wreath.  I just love pinwheels...they're so festive!

I couldn't get over this adorable nursery from 5 Days 5 Ways.  That chair was a $25 dollar Craigslist find!?!

And finally, since I have back-to-school on the brain, I loved this homework station shared by Mommy Minded.

Now it's your turn!

Bunk Bed Update & Stella and Dot Giveaway Winner~

We finally found a bunk bed for the boys.  And we got it for a steal!!  The trick is finding a wholesale warehouse and then being able to buy the floor model at an additional discount.  (Actually it just amounted to some serious good luck.)  Oh yeah, baby!

The only problem is that Boy 1 who is 11-years-old was fine with the idea of white bunks when I came up with the inspiration board below.  But when he saw them in person, he declared that they were too "girly".  Sigh.

So it's back to the old drawing board.  That's okay, though.  That's what design is all about, right?  And the good news is that the bed we got looks similar to this Marlowe bunk from Restoration Hardware that I shared with you previously.  But for about 1/6 the price.  Oh yeah, baby (again)!  The bunk should be coming home today...so hopefully I'll have some  pics to share soon.

And now, the winner of the Stella and Dot giveaway.

Congratulations Kendall from Songbirds and Buttons!  Drop me an email and we'll get you set up with your gorgeous earrings!

Frugal Friday goes live tonight at 8:00 MST as usual.  Hope to see you there!

Fashion Inspiration for the Home: If This Outfit Were a Room~

My roots are in fashion.  It's what I studied in college.  I had a hard time deciding between Fashion and Interior Design, and even though Fashion won out in college, Interior Design won out in the end.  That said, the basic inspiration for each is really very similar...so today I thought I'd have a little fun.

I was looking through the Ruche Summer Look  Book (aaaaaah, bliss) and thought it might be fun to see if I could use a couple of their outfits as inpiration to create some pretty rooms.  This was a fun exercise.  Check it out.

First up, this peppy little number.  Sunny and casual, I love the poppy-colored stripes and the tiny touch of yellow in the bangle on her wrist.

Here's what I came up with:

Bedding - Dwell Home
Rug, Headboard and Bedside Table - West Elm
Pillows - Etsy
Table Lamp - PBTeen
Pendants - Frederic Vasseur
Campaign Desk - World Market

I definitely played up the yellow here...but I love the poppy/yellow combo!  This room would be so much fun to lounge in!

Next up, this chic little short-all with hot pink sandles (not to mention the pretty aqua-colored cruiser).

And my interpretation:

Sofa, Chairs and Ottoman - Serena and Lily
Rug - PBTeen
Lamps - ebay
Pillows - Etsy
Artwork - My Own
Table via Olioboard

Now this is a room that really feels like "me".  Lovin' all the gray with the touches of pink and aqua.  So pretty and restful.

So tell me, my dear reader, does your closet inspire your decor (or vice versa)?

Campaign Desks~

No, rest assured we're not talking political campaigns, people.  This is a decor blog afterall.  We're talking desks.  Specifically those pretty desks with the "x" shaped legs.

Like this...

I love this white one from World Market...and it comes in other colors as well...like black and even blue.

You know how it is when you initially see a space, you come up with an idea as to how things will work, where you will do what in the space.  Then, after you live in it for a while, you realize that your initial idea isn't at all practical and that you are going to have to change your plans.  You do that, don't you?  I hope it's not just me.

Anyhoo, I originally had plans to take over the built-in desk in the kitchen as my blog-central.  But, after assessing the way we live in this house, I felt like that space was better used as the location for the kids' computer.  And that's what happened.

So I have been using the dining room table...which isn't very convenient.  And the hubby and I decided that we are going to have to put a small office space in the master bedroom.  But since it is going to be in the bedroom, I need it (for the sake of my sanity) to be pretty.  Enter the campaign desk.

I have been enamored by these beauties for a while.  And initially thought I'd like a white one like the one pictured above.  Then when doing a search for "campaign desks", I discovered this beauty at World Market.

LOVE.  Went back there today to link to it, and guess what?  It's gone ALREADY.  I'm hoping that our local World Market might have one in the store...if not, I guess I'll have to give up on that idea.  Because these other similar models are a little too pricey for my blood.  Pretty though, aren't they?

And so the search goes on for the perfect campaign desk.  What's your favorite style of desk?

Simple and Pretty Floral Arrangement~

Happy Monday Everybody!

It was a crazy busy weekend around these parts!  With lots of celebrating all surrounding the number 50...on Friday we celebrated my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary with a lovely dinner party, and on Saturday we attended a surprise 50th birthday party for my cute sister-in-law!

My two sweet sisters and I planned the  50th Celebration for my parents.  It was lovely.  I was in charge of the main table centerpiece.  We had chosen cream table linens, and I had originally planned on going with yellow flowers to bring in the "gold" for the golden anniversary.  But, in all honesty, once I was looking at flowers, everything that was available was too sunshine-y yellow, and they just didn't seem elegant enough for the occasion.  So I chose white.

And the arrangements I created (photographed at my house rather than the venue - hence no table linens) were simple but elegant.

To add interest to the smaller of the two arrangements, I simply cut up a few limes and filled the vase with them before adding the flowers - they also work well as sort of natural floral "frog" to hold the flowers in place.  The green of the limes echoed the greenery in the flowers and the entire arrangement was simply elegant.

The same idea works great with more casual floral arrangements.  Picture lemons and daffodils or daisies in a mason jar.  So next time you need a unique floral arrangement think citrus!

Have a great day~

Frugal Friday~

Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Friday with a DOUBLE BIG edition of my Frugal Round-up (seeing as last week I was tardy in getting Frugal Friday posted and didn't have time to post my faves.)

I'm going to start my Frugal Round-up by posting last week's FAN FAVORITE.  Just a reminder folks...those like buttons aren't for Facebook...nope!  They are your chance to vote for your favorite posts.  Just click the thumbs up button for each post you really like (you can vote for more than one)  and the one that gets the most votes each week is crowned that week's FAN FAVORITE.  Which is quite an honor, you know, because my readers have great taste!

So without further digression, last week's  Fan Favorite was The Retro Kitchen Redo from Two-Thirty -Five Designs.  A seriously amazing transformation!

And  my Frugal Round-up from two weeks ago...

Less Than Perfect Life of Bliss shared her darling dormer treatment.  So cute!!

The Thrifty Abode shared her fabulous nursery gallery wall...you know I have a weakness for a good gallery wall!

And Hi Sugar Plum shared her Parisian Chic big girl room.  In. Love. With. That. Bedding.  That is all.

From last week's party...

First up, Scissors and Spatulas shared her dining room reveal...I just love this lightened up version of her room!

Kara's Corner shared her darling nursery...LOVE that closet!

And finally, a great kitchen reveal from Addicted to Decorating.  Paint + old cabinets = magic.

A Plan for the Boys' Room~

Found myself at Ikea yesterday, and gained some great inspiration for my boys' bedroom.  So I came home and pulled together an inspiration board with a few of the items I saw there (and others I've been saving in my files).

Thought you all might want to take a peek.

I have had my eye on the duvet set at Ikea for quite a while...and it's very reasonable...just $29.99 for a twin duvet and pillow case.  Lovin' the blue and white stripes.  Then I saw the pretty cable knit blanket and thought it added another nice nautical touch to the bedding ensemble at $39.99.   The other Ikea find?  That great nautical ceiling pendant.  Perfect at $29.99.

The rest of the inspiration photos pictured?  You'll just have to stay tuned to find out!

Do You Pinterest?

I have recently discovered the addiction that is Pinterest.

Okay, let's be honest, I jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon a while back when it was first getting popular.  But my account sat there.  And sat there.  And sat there.  Until one day I actually pinned something.  Wow!

And that's how it all began.  I love Pinterest.  My boards are still pretty empty, but they are filling up fast.  And you know what I love?  The links to the photos, stay with the photos.  Hurray!  I can remember where I found each one in the first place!  LOVE THAT!

Let's look at a few of  my pins, shall we?

There's decor (OF COURSE!)...

And a bit of Fashion...

And some darling entertaining ideas...

Just lovin' this site!  Do you Pinterest?

Happy Pinning!

Birthday Party in a Bag - an 11-year-old Celebration~

What happens when you move the week before your oldest son turns 11?  Well, you have to get a bit creative that's all.  Luckily, our wonderful next door neighbors (from our previous house) volunteered to let us have his party at their house - since we didn't want to make his friends drive the 35 minutes to our new house. (Not to mention the fact the new place wasn't exactly ready for us to host a party.)

Luckily, Boy 1 is easy to please, so his party consisted of pizza, games, cake, more games, smores and more games.   To transport his "party" to its location, we packed it all up in this big gardening bag from IKEA.   Soda, smores fixin's, paper plates, cups, napkins, glo sticks, favors, and other party essentials all in one convenient bag.  It sure looks festive, no?

Love the fact that he is old enough now that he and his friends can entertain themselves at a party.  It's amazing to watch my kids grow and enter new phases, and I think this phase is a lot of fun.  Such fun to see how they interact!  I sure will miss this great group of friends Boy 1 had in our old neighborhood...here's to finding another group of great friends in our new neighborhood.

Happy Birthday to my 11-year-old!  Love you!!
